Chrysler's 3.5-litre single-overhead-cam V6 — the engine of the 300, Charger, Sebring, Pacifica and Town & Country before the Pentastar consolidated the range.
It is belt-driven rather than chain-driven, which is the most useful thing to establish about it, because it separates this engine's maintenance profile entirely from the Pentastar that replaced it. On an interference design, a neglected belt is a destroyed engine, and these cars are now old enough that belt history is frequently unknown.
The recurring complaints are the water pump — which on this engine is driven by the timing belt, so a failing pump takes the belt with it and turns a routine job into an engine rebuild — plus oil-cooler and gasket leaks at mileage. A coolant leak on a 3.5 is worth locating precisely rather than topping up, because a weeping pump behind the belt cover is on a much shorter clock than an external hose.
