FAW's 2.8-litre turbodiesel, fitted to the Zamyad Z24 — the blue Iranian one-tonne pickup — from 2008, and the engine in that chassis most likely to be quoted figures that describe something else. Everything behind it is Nissan Junior running gear from 1970 and the petrol beside it is Nissan's Z24; this one is neither Japanese nor Iranian.

⚑ It answers to three designations and each reaches a different body of material. The Iranian paperwork and fa.wikipedia's infobox say 28CRZ, and the diesel was shown at the Tabriz motor show as the ND_28; FAW's own designation is CA4D28C4-1; and en.wikipedia records the block as based on Isuzu's 4JB1. Only the first two describe this engine. Searching 28CRZ reaches the Iranian parts listings, CA4D28 the Chinese material, and 4JB1 reaches Isuzu's — which is the ancestor rather than the engine.

The displacements are what settle that, and they are 27 cc apart. en.wikipedia gives the 4JB1 as 2,771 cc on a 93 mm bore and a 102 mm stroke; car.ir gives this engine as 2,798 cc, which both wikis round to 2.8 litres. A licensed development that is not dimensionally its parent cannot be assumed to share its parts, so the 4J-series page describes how the design behaves and is never an interchange list. en.wikipedia also records that Chinese 4JB1 derivatives run from mechanical pumps to common-rail sixteen-valve engines — so "it is a 4JB1" does not even narrow the injection system.

What three sources agree on is 225 Nm, and the band is the point. car.ir states it as 225 Nm held from 1,600 to 2,600 rpm where en.wikipedia gives a single peak at 2,600, and a pickup rated for two tonnes works inside exactly that band. Eight valves, an inline four, direct injection and Euro 3, all from car.ir.

⚑ Its power is published three ways and two of them are one number in different units. en.wikipedia says 93 PS and car.ir says 93 — which is 68 kW and 91 mechanical hp, not 93 hp — while fa.wikipedia says 100. Two readings against one, so this catalogue publishes 68 kW (91 hp). An owner quoting 100 has read fa.wikipedia, and the two wikis also share a 160 km/h top speed that car.ir's own top-speed cell leaves blank.

The model year identifies this engine badly and the engine number identifies it well. en.wikipedia dates the fitment to 2008; fa.wikipedia has the diesel first shown in late 1388 and separately records production stopping in Dey 1395 and restarting in Dey 1397; car.ir's diesel listing runs 1383 to 1399 and marks it discontinued. Three sources, three starts and an interruption in the middle. On the same car the petrol changed from carburettor to injection in the second half of 1385, which is a date about a different engine and gets quoted about this one.

⚑ What no source reached from here states is whether it has engine management a scan tool can interrogate. Euro 3 with direct injection is satisfied by a mechanical pump and by an early electronic one, and those are different diagnoses rather than different fuel maps. Establish which before reading a code off one. The three engines in this chassis diverge completely on that question: the petrol Z24 is multi-point injected from 2006, the M24 that replaced both is Euro 5 with EOBD, and this one is unestablished.
