Renault SCe (badge, not an engine)

SCe is a badge, not an engine — Renault's word for a naturally aspirated petrol, and the counterpart to TCe, which is the turbocharged one.

⚑ One letter separates them and it is the whole difference. At 1.0 litre Renault sells both: the B4D and H4D under this badge have no turbocharger, while the H4Dt and H5D of the same displacement, badged TCe, do. Two cars in the same showroom, the same size on the boot, and an air path that is not the same shape.

Which engine depends on the displacement:

• 1.0 — B4D or H4D, three cylinders, in the Twingo, Clio, Sandero and Logan.
• 1.6 — H4M, four cylinders, the successor to the long-running K4M.

What it does NOT have is the half of a modern petrol engine that fails most. No turbocharger, no wastegate or its actuator, no charge-air cooler and no boost-pressure sensor — so a fault tree that begins with any of those does not apply, and a code list read from a TCe of the same size will contain circuits this car has never had.
