Renault EDC (badge, not a gearbox)

EDC is a badge, not a gearbox. It stands for Efficient Dual Clutch, and Renault has used it since 2010 across at least three different Getrag units — so a fault, a fluid, a service interval or a repair quoted for "the EDC" is worth nothing until somebody establishes which one is in the car.
⚑ The six-speed is a DRY-clutch gearbox and the seven-speeds are WET, and no other distinction in this family matters as much. The 6-speed EDC is the Getrag 6DCT250 — the same unit Ford sold as the PowerShift DPS6, whose dry clutch packs are the reason that name was retired. The 7-speed EDC is the 7DCT300 or the 7DCT500, both of which run their clutches in oil.
What a dry twin-clutch does when it is unhappy is judder, most obviously pulling away on a hill or in traffic, because a dry clutch has none of the oil film that lets a wet one slip smoothly while it takes up drive. Shudder, a burning smell in slow traffic, and a car that hesitates before moving are the six-speed's signature, and they are usually the clutch pack or the actuator rather than the gearbox itself.
The wet seven-speeds do not behave that way, and diagnosing one against the six-speed's reputation sends the work to the wrong place. Their own service item is the fluid, on an interval, and the mechatronic unit.
Establish the unit before anything else. The ratio count on the badge is the quickest tell — six means dry, seven means wet — and the unit's own page here carries the rest.
