Bentley Continental R

The Crewe cars of the nineteen-nineties — Continental R, T and SC coupés, the Azure convertible and the Brooklands saloon — all built on the same steel platform and all powered by the 6.75 L410 V8, an engine whose design dates to 1959 and which is turbocharged here to around 400 horsepower. That combination is what governs the work: a pushrod V8 with a single large turbocharger, hydraulic self-levelling suspension, and a GM 4L80-E automatic behind it. Nothing about it resembles the Volkswagen-era Continental GT that took the name in 2003. The Azure and Brooklands names were each used twice: the cars here, and Arnage-based versions of 2006-2009 that are a different vehicle under the same badge.

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
