Toyota Mirai
The hydrogen car, and the only thing in this catalogue whose energy is stored as a compressed gas at 700 bar. The drivetrain is electric and reads like one — a motor, an inverter, a small buffer battery — but everything upstream of it is unlike anything else here: a fuel-cell stack, an air compressor feeding it, tank pressure and temperature sensing, and hydrogen leak detection that will immobilise the car on its own authority. Its fault codes are overwhelmingly about the stack and the gas side rather than the traction system, so battery-electric experience carries less across than the shared motor hardware suggests. The second generation moved to rear-wheel drive on the platform the large Lexus saloons use.
