The module controlling the clutch that distributes torque between axles — the device that decides how much drive reaches the secondary axle and when. Its codes appear alongside differential and all-terrain module codes because these systems are a cooperating group, and one member behaving unpredictably is reported by the others rather than by itself.

The practical consequence is a defensible one. A module that cannot be trusted to modulate the clutch is commanded to a safe default, which usually means fully open — so the vehicle continues on one axle. A four wheel drive that has quietly become two wheel drive is the presentation, and it is easy to miss until traction is needed, which is exactly the wrong moment.

Rule out the inputs before the module. These systems act on wheel speeds, steering angle, yaw and throttle drawn from other modules, so a single failed wheel speed sensor makes a healthy controller behave erratically and store performance codes. Invalid-data codes from several modules at once usually name the network or a shared sensor rather than several failed modules — and where the module is genuinely at fault, its position under the vehicle near the transfer case means water ingress and connector corrosion are the likeliest mechanism.
