Mahindra XD3P

Peugeot's XD3 built under licence at Igatpuri from 1994, and the engine in the naturally aspirated Bolero 2.5 Di.

⚑ It is not the m2DiCR that sits beside it in the same Bolero showroom. Both wear a 2.5 badge and they are different blocks — 2,498 cc indirect injection here against 2,522 cc direct injection there — which is the single most expensive confusion on this vehicle, because the two have nothing in common at the fuel system. Establish indirect against direct before anything else, and the pump tells you: this engine has a DPC rotary pump with pintle injectors and a mechanical governor, so there is no electronics of any kind to interrogate.

Because it is a Peugeot, French XD service material describes it and there is far more of that than anything filed under Mahindra. The relationship is invisible from the vehicle.

Diagnosis is entirely mechanical: compression, pump timing, glow plugs and injector nozzles. It is unstressed at 76 hp from 2.5 litres and survivors are generally tired rather than faulty.
