Cause

Vehicle driven above the cruise control limit

The vehicle driven faster than cruise control is permitted to operate, so the system disengages and records it. It is designed behaviour rather than a fault — most systems have an upper limit and will drop out above it.

The code reads like a cruise control failure, which is why it is worth naming: a driver who accelerated past the limit and then found the system would not re-engage has met the design. Check the freeze frame for road speed at the moment it stored. The other route is a wrong speed calculation — an incorrect tyre size or final drive makes the module believe the vehicle is faster than it is, so a system dropping out at an implausibly low indicated speed is a calibration question rather than a driving one.

Typically an easy fix. Often worth checking before paying anyone to look.

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
