The car drives normally. The concern is that the restraint system may not be able to warn you about a fault — so do not treat a working car as proof the airbags are working. Worth fixing promptly for that reason alone.
What this code means
The circuit for the driver seat belt indicator is faulty.
An indicator fault in the restraint system is not a cosmetic problem, and the reason is that the lamp is the only way the system can tell anyone anything.
A restraint system gives no feedback in normal use. It cannot be tested by the driver, it does nothing perceptible until the one moment it matters, and by then it is too late to discover it was switched off. The warning lamp is the entire user interface.
Which is why the module monitors its own indicators. A lamp that cannot illuminate would leave a disabled restraint system looking exactly like a working one — so the failure of the warning is treated as seriously as the failure it would have warned about.
It is also why these lamps self-test at every start. The bulb check that lights the airbag lamp for a few seconds is not decoration: it proves the lamp works. A car whose airbag lamp never comes on at all is more worrying than one where it stays on, and it is worth watching for on any used vehicle.
The seat belt indicator is the most-ignored warning on the car and the one with the best evidence behind it — belt reminder systems measurably increase belt use, which is why they are now required in most markets and why the module treats the lamp as part of the restraint system rather than as a convenience.
