P0522: Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch A Low
What to do
Stop and check the oil level now. If the oil pressure warning light is on or the engine is noisy, do not drive it — have it recovered. A short circuit and a genuine loss of oil pressure look identical on a scan tool, and only one of them is survivable.
What this code means
The oil pressure signal voltage is below its plausible range. On most sensors a low voltage corresponds to low pressure, which is precisely why this code cannot safely be assumed to be electrical — a short to ground and an engine with no oil pressure produce the same reading.
The fast discriminator is to unplug the sensor. An open circuit usually drives the reading to the opposite extreme, so if the reported value changes when the connector is removed, the wiring between sensor and module is intact and the sensor was reporting what it saw. Confirm with a mechanical gauge regardless.
