P250C: Engine Oil Level Sensor Circuit Low
What to do
Ask for the connector to be inspected for corrosion and for oil. This sensor sits low on the engine where road salt and spray reach it, and that connector is in about the dirtiest position on the car — corrosion there is a common cause and much cheaper than a sensor.
Mention any oil weeping around the sensor itself, which both causes the fault and is a leak worth fixing.
Check the oil level yourself if the car has a dipstick. While this fault is stored the electronic reading is unavailable, and on a car without a dipstick you have no indication at all until the pressure warning light comes on — which is far too late.
Mention any recent work underneath the car, since a disturbed connector is a frequent cause.
What this code means
The oil level sensor's signal is below the lowest voltage the circuit should produce.
A signal below the valid range is an electrical statement rather than a claim about the oil — these sensors are specified so that even an empty sump keeps a margin above zero volts, precisely so the module can tell a broken circuit from an empty engine. That distinction is deliberate and it matters here more than almost anywhere.
So this is a wiring fault until proven otherwise: a short to ground, an open signal wire, or a collapsed reference supply.
Location gives it a characteristic cause. The sensor is mounted in the sump or the side of the block, low down and outside the engine, where it is exposed to road spray, salt and stone damage. Its connector sits in the dirtiest position on the vehicle, and corrosion there is ordinary rather than exceptional.
Oil is the second location-specific cause, and it works the same way it does elsewhere in this corpus: oil wicks along the wire strands into the connector and bridges the terminals. A weeping sensor seal is both the cause of that and a leak worth finding.
Unplugging the sensor separates harness from element in a minute. A circuit that stays low with it disconnected is a wiring or module fault.
Check the oil level by whatever means the car provides while this is unresolved — the electronic reading is not available, and on a car without a dipstick that is a real gap.
