Expect severely reduced power — possibly idle only. That is deliberate: this monitor exists to stop the engine producing torque nobody asked for, so it cuts back hard rather than risk it.

Do not simply clear the code and drive on. It is one of the few faults where the vehicle is genuinely protecting against unintended acceleration.

Ask whether any accelerator pedal or airflow sensor faults are stored alongside. The torque figure is calculated from those sensors, so a faulty one makes a healthy module produce an impossible answer — and that is a much smaller repair than a new module.

Have the battery and earth connections checked as well, since unstable voltage causes internal calculation faults.

What this code means

The module's internal torque calculation has failed its own plausibility check.

Torque is the number a modern engine module actually controls, and understanding that makes this code make sense. The driver's pedal is not a throttle — it is a torque request. The module works out how much torque the driver wants, adds what the gearbox, stability control and air conditioning are asking for, and only then decides on throttle, fuel and timing to deliver it.

Because that figure governs everything, it is monitored independently. The module calculates torque a second time by a different route, then compares. This code says the two calculations disagreed.

That is a safety monitor rather than an emissions one, and the reason is unintended acceleration. A module that miscalculates torque could open the throttle further than anyone asked. So the response is deliberate and abrupt: throttle authority is cut and the engine drops into a heavily limited mode, sometimes to idle only.

The commonest real cause is not the module. The torque model is built from sensor inputs — pedal position, airflow, boost, engine speed — and a sensor feeding it a wrong value makes an honest module compute an implausible answer. Read every stored code first; a pedal or airflow fault alongside this one is very likely the cause.

Supply voltage matters here as much as anywhere else in this family.
