P060C: Internal Control Module Main Processor Performance
Do not keep driving
Have the battery, its terminals and the engine earth straps checked before agreeing to a replacement module. A processor running on unstable voltage fails its own self-tests exactly like a faulty one — and that is both far more common and far cheaper than a new module.
Expect the car to be in limp mode, or not to start. That is the module protecting you from itself rather than an additional fault.
Mention any water leaks — a damp footwell, a blocked scuttle drain, or a leaking windscreen seal. Control modules are often mounted where that water reaches them, and corrosion inside is a genuine cause.
If a replacement module is genuinely needed, expect it to require programming and coding to this vehicle. That is normal and not an upsell.
What this code means
The engine control module's main processor has failed one of its own integrity checks.
A modern engine module does not trust its own processor, and this code is that distrust doing its job. These modules carry two processors — a main one that runs the engine, and a smaller monitoring processor whose entire purpose is to check the first one's arithmetic. The monitor feeds the main processor test problems with known answers, many times a second, and compares what comes back.
This code is the monitor reporting that the answers stopped being right.
Why that architecture exists is worth knowing, because it explains the severity. A processor that miscalculates does not stop — it confidently commands the wrong throttle opening, the wrong fuel quantity, or the wrong ignition timing. A module that has silently gone wrong is more dangerous than one that has stopped, so the monitor's job is to force it into a safe state before that happens. Expect limp mode, a shutdown, or a refusal to start.
Before condemning the module, eliminate its supply and earths. A processor starved of stable voltage produces exactly these symptoms, and a poor earth or a failing battery is far commoner than a genuinely dead processor — as well as very much cheaper.
Check for water ingress too. Modules mounted low in the engine bay or under a scuttle drain get wet, and corrosion on the board produces intermittent internal faults long before it is visible.
