P0765: Shift Solenoid D
What to do
Note which gears you still have. Ask early whether the solenoid is replaceable on its own or only as part of a complete assembly — on many newer six- and eight-speed gearboxes it is the latter, and that changes the cost substantially.
What this code means
A fault in the transmission's fourth shift solenoid. The existence of a solenoid D at all tells you something useful about the gearbox: it takes more solenoids to produce more ratios, so vehicles reporting this code generally have six speeds or more, and that means a comparatively recent design.
That matters for the repair rather than the diagnosis. Older transmissions carry individually replaceable solenoids bolted to the valve body. Many newer ones integrate the solenoids, the valve body and the control electronics into a single sealed mechatronic assembly, which is frequently supplied only complete — so the same fault that costs a modest amount on a four-speed can cost a great deal more here, and the question "is this solenoid available separately" is worth asking early, because the answer changes the economics of the whole job.
