Cause
Damaged transmission wiring harness
The loom between the module and the gearbox's internal solenoids and sensors, much of which lives inside the transmission in fluid and heat. An internal harness fault needs the pan off to reach, so it belongs after the external connector and wiring have been ruled out rather than before.
