A fan heard running long after the car is locked, or a twelve-volt battery repeatedly flat in the morning with this code stored, is the picture. Not urgent for the hybrid system — but have it fixed before the flat-battery mornings start.
What this code means
The battery cooling fan runs when it should not — including, on the designs where this is most often noticed, after the car is switched off.
A fan stuck on harms nothing directly; the pack does not mind being cool. The costs are indirect: a whine from behind the rear seat that was not there before, and a twelve-volt battery drained overnight by a fan that never sleeps — a hybrid's version of a boot light left on. The fault is usually the fan's control transistor or relay conducting permanently, or a control wire shorted in the on state.
Worth separating from normal behaviour first: many vehicles legitimately run this fan after shutdown on hot days, for a bounded few minutes. Stuck on means indefinitely.
