Fault stored in the battery energy control module
The code you are reading is a message, and the actual fault is recorded somewhere else — inside the module that manages the traction battery, which most basic code readers cannot address. The engine module only relays the battery module's request for a warning lamp; the code naming the real problem (a cooling fan, a temperature sensor, a cell group, a contactor) sits in the battery module's own memory, readable with a scan tool that speaks to it.
This matters because the relayed message invites the most expensive conclusion available — "battery module reports a fault" reads as "battery failing" — when the recorded fault is frequently a fan or a sensor. Never accept a battery-level conclusion without the battery module's own codes being read; it is one scan, and it regularly turns a pack quote into a fan clean.
