A car that clicks but will not wake, especially with contactor codes alongside, belongs to this family. Do not keep retrying — every failed attempt stresses the same parts. Inside the battery pack on most designs: qualified workshop only.

What this code means

The circuit monitoring the precharge contactor is reporting a fault — and the precharge contactor is the answer to a question the contactor family has been begging since P0AA0: how do you connect a battery to an inverter without a bang?

The inverter looks like a short circuit at the moment of connection. Its input is a bank of capacitors, and empty capacitors accept current without limit — close the main contactors straight onto them and the inrush is a spot-weld event, precisely the weld P0AA1 describes. So a third, smaller contactor closes first, feeding the capacitors through a resistor that tames the inrush; a second or so later, with the capacitors charged and no voltage across the mains, the big contactors close into nothing and the precharge path bows out. The sequence is why a waking hybrid clicks more than once, and why the whole ceremony takes a beat.

A precharge fault therefore presents at start-up almost by definition — the car clicks, waits, and declines READY, because the module will not close mains across uncharged capacitors. And it explains something else this block has already seen: main contactors that weld young have often been closing behind a failing precharge for months. The suspect list: the precharge contactor itself, the resistor (which dissipates real energy every start and can fail open), and the monitoring circuit per this family's usual pattern.
