What this code means

The DC/DC converter's step-up stage is not performing as it should.

Step up is the less familiar direction and what it is for depends on the design, which changes what its failure costs.

On a vehicle with a boost converter between pack and inverter — common where the pack's own voltage is lower than the inverter wants — the step-up stage raises the link voltage so the machine can be driven hard and at speed. Its failure shows up as a car that pulls away normally and runs out of urgency higher up, because the inverter is working from a lower rail than it was designed around.

On a bidirectional low-voltage converter, step up runs the other way: from the 12-volt system into the high-voltage side, which is how some vehicles wake or precharge their high-voltage system. Its failure shows up as a car that drove perfectly and then will not power up after standing, because it can no longer bootstrap itself.

So the first question is which arrangement this vehicle uses, and the symptom tells you: lost performance at speed, or a failure to wake.
