If the car has also been slower to charge and shorter on range, an ageing pack with rising internal resistance fits all three, and that is worth establishing before a control fault is chased.

What this code means

More current has been drawn out of the traction battery than its limit allows.

The two-by-two is at P0CA4 and the reason current is limited separately from voltage is at P0CA6. On the discharging side the constraint is heat rather than plating: current through the pack's internal resistance makes heat inside the cells, where it is hardest to remove, and sustained heat is what ages a battery fastest after time itself.

The limit is not fixed. It falls as the pack gets cold, as it gets hot, and as its state of charge drops — which is why an electric car feels progressively less urgent as the battery empties, and why it feels flat on a freezing morning before it has warmed. Those are the limit doing its job rather than a fault.

So this code says the limit was genuinely exceeded, and the candidates are a control fault allowing more than was permitted, a measurement making the limit wrong, or a pack whose internal resistance has risen with age so that the same demand produces more heat than it used to.
