P0E56: DC/DC Converter Input Voltage Too Low
What to do
The car may lose twelve-volt power and shut down, possibly while driving. Treat it as urgent rather than as a flat battery — the traction battery or its main connections are the likely cause, and continuing to run the car on a sagging supply risks leaving it somewhere inconvenient.
What this code means
The high-voltage supply arriving at the DC/DC converter is below its lower limit.
The converter's input is the traction pack, so this code is about the battery rather than about the converter — and that inversion is the whole of its value. Every other DC/DC code in the corpus points at the converter. This one points past it.
Three things bring the input down. A pack that is genuinely low or failing — see P0DE6, where a deeply discharged pack is a safety matter rather than a flat battery. A contactor that has not fully closed, adding resistance in a path carrying real current, which shows as a voltage that sags under load and recovers at rest. Or a connection between pack and converter that has degraded, which behaves the same way.
The consequence is a cascade that is easy to misread. A converter starved of input cannot maintain the twelve-volt system, so the twelve-volt battery discharges, so the modules that manage the traction battery start behaving oddly — and the car presents as an electrical fault of no obvious origin. The order matters: fix the input, and the rest resolves.
Read the pack's own codes first. If this code stands alone with a healthy pack, suspect the path between them.
