P0E57: DC/DC Converter Input Voltage Too High
What to do
The car may lose twelve-volt power. If it happened during hard braking down a long hill on a full or very cold battery, that is the likeliest circumstance and worth reporting exactly — the conditions matter more than the code here.
What this code means
The high-voltage supply arriving at the DC/DC converter is above its upper limit.
This is the rarer direction, and unlike its sibling it usually is not the pack. A traction battery's voltage is set by its chemistry and state of charge; it does not spontaneously rise above its ceiling.
What can push it up is regeneration. Under heavy regenerative braking the drive motor becomes a generator and forces current back into the pack, and if the pack cannot absorb it — because it is already full, or cold, or its contactor has opened mid-event — the voltage on the high-voltage bus climbs sharply. That is a real transient, and it is why cars restrict regeneration on a full or cold battery rather than letting the driver enjoy it.
The other explanation is that the measurement is wrong, which is why P0E31's sensors should be read alongside this. A converter that believes its input is too high will shut down to protect itself, so a lying sensor produces a genuine twelve-volt failure with nothing actually out of range.
Note what this code protects. The converter steps several hundred volts down to fourteen; an over-voltage on its input, unhandled, is an over-voltage delivered to every twelve-volt module on the car.
