P0ED7: Generator Phase Y Current
What to do
The car will drive, but the engine may run more while charging the battery less — and that is easily mistaken for a worn-out traction battery. Worth ruling this out before a pack is quoted, because the machine is running at half capability rather than the battery being tired.
What this code means
The current in phase Y of the generator's second three-phase set is outside its expected range.
Phases X, Y and Z are a second set of three, and that is the whole story of this family.
The generator's first three phases are U, V and W — the corpus carries their sensors at P0E00 and their correlation at P0DFA. X, Y and Z are three more, which means a machine with six phases rather than three.
Six-phase machines exist for two reasons and both matter here. Power: splitting the current between two three-phase sets lets each switching device carry half of it, which is how a high-output machine is built without exotic semiconductors. And redundancy: two independent sets means a fault in one can be shut down while the other keeps turning, at reduced output.
That second property is what makes these codes easy to under-react to. A fault confined to X, Y or Z leaves the machine running on U, V and W — so the car works, at roughly half the generator's capability, with no dramatic symptom. On a hybrid the effect is an engine that runs more and achieves less, which reads as a tired battery.
The useful check is which set is named. A fault in one set is that set's wiring, sensors or inverter half. A fault spanning both sets is what they share — the supply, the module, the machine itself.
