P2534: Ignition Switch On/Start Position Circuit Low
What to do
Expect the engine to fire and die, or not to start at all. If work has been done on the steering column, the column switches or the airbag recently, mention it — the wiring runs there and is easily pinched.
What this code means
The run-and-start circuit reads below its valid range, normally a short to ground. The consequence is that of P2533: the module may lose its "should be running" signal during or just after cranking, producing an engine that fires and dies.
A short here is a wiring fault rather than a worn contact, and the harness behind the steering column is where it usually lives — an area disturbed by steering lock work, column switch replacement and airbag jobs.
