P2692: Cylinder 7 Injector Data Incompatible
What to do
As at P2690 — this says a calibration code is missing or wrong rather than that anything has failed.
On a V8 or larger, ask for all the injector codes to be read back and checked, not just the one this code names. The injectors are on two banks reached from opposite sides, the job is often done in stages, and the usual mistake is two codes swapped between cylinders — which means a second cylinder is wrong too, even if only one has set a code so far. Checking the whole set takes a few minutes and saves a return visit.
What this code means
The calibration data held for cylinder 7's injector does not match the injector fitted there, or is absent. The full explanation of injector calibration codes is at P2690.
A cylinder 7 tells you the engine is a V8 or larger, and that changes the practical shape of the job in a way worth stating: the injectors are split across two banks, reached from opposite sides of the engine, often at different sessions and sometimes by different people.
That is the condition under which coding errors multiply. A set of eight calibration codes entered against eight cylinders, with the physical work interrupted halfway and the numbering convention crossing between banks, is materially more error-prone than the same job on an inline four. The failure it produces is usually a pair rather than a single: two codes transposed, so two cylinders each carry the other's correction and both run wrong while the total looks plausible.
So a coding fault on one cylinder of a large engine is a reason to verify all of them, not just the one named. Reading back the stored codes and comparing them against the labels on the injectors is quicker than diagnosing the second one later.
