P2693: Cylinder 8 Injector Data Incompatible

As at P2690 — a calibration code is missing or wrong; nothing has failed.

If a full set of injectors was just fitted, this is worth pressing on. A set for a V8 diesel is a very large bill, and the coding step that makes them work properly takes minutes by comparison. An uncoded set can genuinely run worse than the worn injectors it replaced, which is how people conclude that expensive new parts are faulty when they are not.

Ask for every injector's code to be entered and then read back and compared against the labels on the injectors themselves. That confirms the job in a few minutes.

What this code means

Cylinder 8 completes a V8 set, and the pairing point from P2692 applies most strongly here — a fault on the last cylinder of a set is very often the second half of a transposition involving one of the others.

Worth adding is the economic argument for getting the coding right on an engine this size, because it is the one that persuades people to pay for the extra half hour. A full set of injectors for a V8 diesel is among the most expensive routine repairs a vehicle receives. The calibration step costs minutes on top of that and determines whether the parts deliver what was paid for. An uncoded set runs measurably rougher, smokes more and uses more fuel than the worn injectors it replaced in some cases — which is how a correct and expensive repair ends up looking like a failed one, and how good new parts get returned as faulty.

Insisting that the codes are entered and read back is the cheapest insurance available on that job.
