Drivable, but expect the hybrid system to behave differently — engine running more than usual, electric-only driving reduced or gone, or a shudder at the moment the engine joins. What this code means
The engine disconnect clutch is slipping more than commanded.
Deliberate slip is how the blend works; excessive slip is the clutch failing at it. The module commands a precise slip during every engine join and measures what it gets — speed difference across the clutch that will not close down means the plates cannot carry the torque being sent through them. Every second of excess slip is heat, and heat is what finishes clutches.
The engine disconnect clutch is how a hybrid drops its engine off the driveline entirely. In many hybrid layouts a clutch sits between the engine and the electric motor: open, the car drives purely electrically with the engine stopped and stationary; closed, the engine joins in to drive and to charge. Every transition between electric and engine drive passes through this clutch, and it slips deliberately during each blend so the join is seamless.
When it misbehaves, the seam shows. A disconnect clutch fault reads as shudder or a thump exactly when the engine joins or leaves, an engine that starts under way but never seems to take the load, or electric running that has quietly stopped happening. The module protects the clutch by simplifying: expect it to keep the engine coupled more than usual, or to refuse engine assistance and lean on the battery.
It is a real friction clutch with a real actuator, and both halves fail. The actuator's circuits fail like any wiring in engine-bay heat; the clutch itself wears with every blend and suffers most from slipping under high torque — hard acceleration exactly at the moment of engine join is its hardest duty.
