Clutch Actuator
Operates the clutch under module control on an automated manual or dual-clutch transmission, replacing the driver's left foot. Electric or hydraulic depending on design, and in either case it works against a strong spring many times a minute in traffic, which is why it wears in a way no clutch pedal ever does. Its failures divide usefully: not moving at all is obvious, while not achieving full travel is not — the latter produces slip on a clutch with plenty of material left, and is worth eliminating before a clutch is condemned.
