What to do
The car will drive normally. What you have lost is the misfuelling warning — so be especially careful at the pump until it is fixed. If you ever do put the wrong fuel in, do not start the engine: a tank drained before starting is cheap, and one that has been run is often a new pump and injectors.
What this code means
The circuit for the diesel fuel presence sensor is faulty.
This sensor answers a question that sounds absurd until you know why it is asked: is there diesel in the fuel?
It is not a fuel gauge. It detects whether the fuel in the system is diesel at all — and it exists because misfuelling is common, expensive, and almost impossible to detect any other way. Putting petrol in a modern diesel is a mistake made thousands of times a day, and the damage is severe: diesel fuel lubricates the high-pressure pump, petrol does not, so a pump run on petrol destroys itself and sends metal debris through the entire fuel system.
The repair bill is the whole justification for the sensor. A misfuelled tank drained before the engine is started costs very little. Started and driven, it commonly means a new high-pressure pump, new injectors, new rails and new lines, because the debris cannot be flushed out.
So a fault here removes a protection rather than causing a symptom. The car runs exactly as before; what has gone is the warning that would have caught a misfuelling before it became a rebuild.
On some vehicles the same sensor supports fuel-quality adaptation — adjusting injection for winter-grade or biodiesel blends — so a fault can also show as rough running on a tank of unusual fuel and nothing on the next.
