P2B94: Wastegate Position Sensor B Exceeded Learning Limit
What to do
Be wary of a repair that consists of clearing the code and running a relearn. This means the module has run out of adjustment for a mechanism that has physically shifted — the relearn does not change the mechanism, and the fault returns within days.
Ask whether the wastegate linkage has play in it. A worn bush lets the flap sit differently from where the sensor thinks, and that is what the module has been compensating for.
Ask which turbocharger this is if the vehicle has two, since the answer decides the job and the cost.
This has been developing for a long time rather than appearing suddenly, so it is worth asking whether cleaning the mechanism is still viable — that window closes as the wear progresses.
What this code means
The adaptation for the second wastegate position sensor has reached the end of its range.
This is the fourth adaptation-limit code the corpus carries, and reading them as one family is more useful than reading any of them alone. The EGR valve learns its closed position, injectors learn a fuelling offset, boost control learns its travel, and a wastegate learns where its stops are. Every one of them means the same thing: the module has been quietly compensating for a mechanical drift, and it has run out of room.
So this is a maturity marker rather than a sudden failure. Everything worked until the compensation was exhausted — which means the drift has been developing for a long time and the code marks the end of that process, not its start.
On a wastegate specifically, what drifts is the mechanical end stop. Carbon builds where the flap seats, and the bushes wear, so the closed position moves. The sensor reports honestly; the geometry has changed.
Clearing the code and running a relearn is not a repair. The mechanism is unchanged, so the adaptation walks straight back to its limit — usually within days.
A second wastegate means a second turbocharger, so establish which one this is before working on it. On a two-stage system the low-pressure stage is often the one whose flap sees the most gas at high load.
Play in the linkage is the thing to check by hand, cold: a worn bush shows as movement at the rod that should not be there.
