U0548: Invalid Data Received From Seat Control Module F

What to do

The car drives normally, and the seat itself may work perfectly — but if an airbag warning light is on as well, treat that as the urgent part. Modern seats report occupant weight and position into the airbag decisions, so a seat data fault can disable a restraint.

Look under the seat yourself before paying anybody. Slide it fully forward, then fully back, with a torch on the wiring underneath. You are looking for a loom that has been crushed by the seat rail, dragged by luggage, or pulled part-way out of a connector — that is the usual answer, and it is visible without tools.

If anything has been stored under the seat, or a child seat or aftermarket accessory fitted recently, mention it. Wiring under a seat is easy to trap and easy to forget about.

Seat control module F is broadcasting data that cannot be accepted as true. See U0400 for what an invalid-data code is and why the module it names is usually the messenger rather than the culprit.

The letter is the part of this code that actually tells you something, and it is worth reading carefully.

The standard letters each instance of a repeated module — one per door, one per seat, one per window — so the letter narrows a whole-vehicle fault to one corner of the car before anybody lifts a trim panel. What the letter does not do is say which corner, because the mapping from letter to physical position is the manufacturer's to choose and it is not consistent between makes.

Only the vehicle's own documentation resolves the letter to a location. Guessing costs a stripped door card and proves nothing.

Two practical consequences. If several letters in the same family are stored together, the fault is upstream of all of them — a shared supply, a shared earth, or the bus itself — and chasing one door is wasted work. And if exactly one letter is stored, you have been handed the most valuable diagnostic fact available: the other instances are working, so everything they share is proven good.

A powered seat carries more wiring than most people expect, and all of it runs to the one place in the car that gets kicked.

Under a front seat is where feet go, where luggage slides, and where things are stored and forgotten. The loom running to a seat module crosses that space, and it is routinely crushed by a seat rail, dragged by a shifting box, or pulled when the seat travels to the end of its rails. A wire that has been stretched thin over months fails intermittently long before it fails outright.

Modern seats also carry safety-relevant sensing, which is why a comfort module ends up mattering: occupant weight, seat position and belt state feed the restraint decisions. A seat module publishing implausible data can therefore take an airbag light with it, and that is the part worth acting on quickly even though the seat itself works.

Check under the seat before anything is dismantled. Run the seat fully forward and fully back with a torch on the loom — a chafed section or a connector pulled part-way out is visible in under a minute and is the single most likely cause here.
