A dashcam, tracker, tow bar, alarm, stereo or set of extra lights went on, and the car has had electrical oddities since. Nearly all of it comes down to where the power was taken from. A permanent live tapped from the wrong circuit keeps a module awake and flattens the battery; a supply spliced into a signal wire changes what that signal reads; and a tow bar wired without the correct interface tells the car a trailer is attached, which on many vehicles disables the parking sensors and alters the stability control. What this usually means
Nearly all of it comes down to where the power was taken from. A permanent live tapped from the wrong circuit keeps a module awake and flattens the battery. A supply spliced into a signal wire changes what that signal reads. And a tow bar wired without the correct interface tells the car a trailer is attached — which on many vehicles disables the parking sensors and alters the stability control.
Mention the accessory even if it was fitted months earlier and by a professional. It is the one modification a scan tool has no way of seeing, and the delay between fitting and symptom is exactly why nobody connects the two: a dashcam wired to a permanent live produces a flat battery only after the car is left for a long weekend.
