Knock Sensor
A piezoelectric microphone bolted to the block, listening for the sharp rap of detonation so the module can retard timing the instant it starts. Unusually sensitive to mounting: incorrect torque, or anything trapped between sensor and block, stops it hearing the engine properly — a sensor replaced without the specified torque often re-sets the same code.
