Ignition Coil
Steps battery voltage up to the tens of thousands of volts needed to jump the plug gap. On coil-on-plug engines there is one per cylinder, which makes the classic diagnostic move possible: swap the coil with a neighbouring cylinder and see whether the misfire follows it, proving the fault without buying anything.
