Nissan's 2.8 diesel straight-six — the LD28 — in the 910 and U11 Maxima, and one of very few diesel sixes ever sold in a mid-size saloon.

It is the diesel relative of the L-series petrol six and shares its architecture, which is the route into material about it: the L-series is famous and thoroughly documented, and much of the bottom end is common.

⚑ Its enduring reputation is as a donor. The LD28 crankshaft is forged and fits the petrol L28, and building a stronger engine that way is common enough that most surviving material discusses the crank rather than the engine. It is belt-driven and entirely mechanical — an injection pump, glow plugs and compression, with nothing to interrogate.

The RD28 that replaced it is a different engine with its own page here, and the two are frequently conflated because both are Nissan diesel sixes.
