Hyundai's six-speed manual transaxle — in the Accent and Kia Rio, and across the two companies' small cars.

Hyundai designs and builds its own manuals, which is worth stating because at this size most manufacturers buy from Getrag or Aisin. So the parts and procedures are Hyundai's, and a search for a generic six-speed transaxle finds the wrong gearbox.

Its recurring complaints are the clutch and the linkage rather than the gearbox. A bite point that has climbed is the clutch; a change that has gone long and vague is the cables and their bushings — a fraction of the cost of anything inside, and regularly mistaken for a worn gearbox.

Where something inside wears it is the second-gear synchro, crunching on a fast cold change and nowhere else. A crunch into every gear is the clutch not releasing, which is hydraulic and outside the gearbox.

A clutchless version exists — the same transaxle with an actuator, sold as an automated manual — and it has an entirely different failure mode: a refused gear rather than a worn one.
