Headlights not adjusting or aiming correctly
The beam sits too low, too high, will not self-level, fails to bend into corners, or a section of an LED unit has gone dark. Two versions matter for different reasons.
A beam that suddenly does not reach anywhere — a pool of light a few metres ahead on an unlit road — is usually the levelling system aiming down because it cannot trust its information. That is the safe response, and it is genuinely dangerous at speed on a dark road.
A beam left high is the version the driver never sees. Being flashed repeatedly by oncoming traffic on dipped beam is the only symptom, and it is worth taking as information rather than rudeness.
The usual cause is not the headlamp but the ride height sensor under the vehicle, on a thin link in the road salt. Two things get blamed on it wrongly: a lowered vehicle needs the levelling recalibrated, and LED or HID bulbs fitted into housings built for halogen dazzle in a way no levelling system can correct.

What this usually means
Two versions matter for different reasons.
A beam that suddenly does not reach anywhere — a pool of light a few metres ahead on an unlit road — is usually the levelling system aiming down because it cannot trust its information. That is the safe response, and it is genuinely dangerous at speed on a dark road.
A beam left high is the version the driver never sees. Being flashed repeatedly by oncoming traffic on dipped beam is the only symptom, and it is worth taking as information rather than rudeness.
The usual cause is not the headlamp but the ride height sensor under the vehicle, on a thin link in the road salt. The system aims the beam from the vehicle's attitude, so a sensor or its link that has corroded, bent or broken leaves the system with no attitude to work from — and it defaults down.
Two things get blamed on it wrongly. A lowered vehicle needs the levelling recalibrated, because the sensors now report an attitude the system was never set up for. And LED or HID bulbs fitted into housings built for halogen dazzle in a way no levelling system can correct — the reflector was designed around a filament's position and size, and a different source scatters light where the cut-off should be.
Cornering and adaptive functions add motors inside the headlamp, which fail on their own; a lamp that levels correctly but no longer swivels is that motor rather than the sensor.
And a beam that is simply misaligned after a bumper or headlamp repair needs setting on a beam-setter, which is a workshop procedure rather than a guess against a wall.
