Also known as: mt75, mt-75, mt 75, ferguson mt-75
Ford's MT75 — the rear-drive five-speed manual in the Sierra, the Scorpio and the Transit.
⚑ It is not the MTX-75, and the names are one character apart. The MTX-75 is a transverse gearbox for front-wheel-drive Mondeos and Focuses; the MT75 is longitudinal and sits behind an engine driving the rear wheels. They share nothing, and both have pages here — which is the reason to state it.
It is a heavy, torque-tolerant unit designed for vans as much as for cars, and it is what most rear-drive Ford conversions use for that reason.
Its known complaints are age rather than design: a worn release bearing heard as a rumble with the clutch up, and a notchy second when cold. Fluid specification matters more than owners expect — the wrong oil produces exactly that cold shift.
Parts are still good because the Transit kept it in production long after the cars had gone.

2 generations. Only where a source names the model and the generation together — a gearbox is documented as a product far more often than as a fitment, so this list is deliberately shorter than the truth.
Information, not instruction
CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.
Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

What makes one worth reading:
- The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
- What you measured, not only what you replaced.
- What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
