Opel Vectra

The large saloon and estate that preceded the Insignia, and still working in numbers in Eastern Europe, Turkey and North Africa. Purely GM engineering — a useful reference point, because it is what an Opel looked like before any PSA content entered the range.

Generations

  • A 1988–1995

The first Vectra, replacing the Ascona: front-wheel drive, GM2900 underneath, and shared with the Calibra coupé, so Calibra parts and service data very often apply. A viscous-coupling four-wheel-drive saloon was sold from 1989, and the **2.0 Turbo 4x4** is the one to know — `C20LET`, a six-speed Getrag box and a driveline nothing else in the range has. Engines are the eight-valve Family II and the sixteen-valve `C20XE`; the diesels are Isuzu.

  • B 1995–2002

The same GM2900 floorpan as the A under a new body, and the generation that added the estate. Eight-valve engines give way to sixteen-valve Ecotec units through the run, and the 2000 facelift brings the Z-series — a `Z18XE` and a `Y26SE` that both carry over into the C, so a designation alone does not tell you which car you are looking at.

  • C 2002–2008

Z-series petrol and CDTi diesel on the GM Epsilon platform, and the car the Signum is built from. Conventional throughout except at the top: the **2.8 V6 turbo** of the OPC and VXR is a High Feature engine turbocharged by GM Powertrain Sweden, and the `Z20NET` is a rebadged Saab `B207L`, so Saab 9-3 data describes it directly. The 1.9 CDTi is a Fiat JTD under a GM designation.

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
