Faulty clutch switch
The switch telling the vehicle the clutch pedal is down. It gates cranking, cruise control and stop-start, so the complaints are scattered — a car that will not start until the pedal is pressed unusually far is describing this, and so is cruise control that disengages by itself.
Typically an easy fix. Often worth checking before paying anyone to look.
