P0704: Clutch Switch Input Circuit
What to do
Cruise control may refuse to work, and the engine may not crank unless the clutch is pressed unusually far. Both point at the same cheap switch. If the car will not start, pressing the clutch fully to the floor often gets you going in the meantime.
What this code means
The clutch pedal switch signal is missing or implausible. On a manual transmission this switch does two jobs: it tells the starter circuit the clutch is depressed, which on most modern vehicles is a precondition for cranking at all, and it cancels cruise control when the clutch is pressed so the engine cannot be revved against a disengaged driveline.
Because the switch sits at the top of the pedal box where it takes a knock every time the pedal returns, mechanical wear and misadjustment are far more common than electrical failure. A no-crank complaint arriving alongside this code is the giveaway — the starter, battery and solenoid are all healthy and the vehicle simply has not been told the clutch is down.
