Cause
Faulty intake air temperature sensor
The sensor telling the module how dense the incoming air is. A reading that is wrong but plausible is worse than one that is obviously broken, because the module trusts it and adjusts fuel and timing to match — giving poor economy and lost power with no obvious fault.
Typically an easy fix. Often worth checking before paying anyone to look.
