P0614: Engine Control Module/Transmission Control Module Incompatible
What to do
Expect the gearbox to default to a protective mode. This follows module replacement or software work almost every time — mention any recent work, including anything done by a previous owner if the vehicle was recently bought. The repair is programming rather than parts.
What this code means
The engine and transmission modules have compared their configurations and found they do not match. Each carries a record of the vehicle's specification, and shifting decisions depend on both agreeing about the engine, gearbox and final drive fitted.
This is essentially always a consequence of recent work: one module replaced with a unit from a different specification, a second-hand module retaining another vehicle's configuration, or software updated on one module and not the other. It is a coding fault, not a hardware one.
