P0828: Up and Down Shift Switch Circuit High
What to do
Manual mode is unavailable; automatic shifting continues normally. If the horn or steering wheel buttons have also become unreliable, mention it — that points at one part rather than several.
What this code means
The shared shift switch circuit is reading above its valid range — an open circuit, or a short to supply. An open is the more common of the two on a steering wheel installation, where every signal crosses the rotating joint through the clockspring and that ribbon cable is the part that wears.
