What to do

A sudden cluster of wild, contradictory battery readings is one failed sensor board far more often than a failed battery — the distinction is worth thousands, so ask which is actually being quoted. Pack-internal work: qualified hands only.

What this code means

The sensing electronics inside the battery pack have failed their self-check — the board that reads every cell group's voltage and every temperature sensor, and feeds the battery module the data everything else rests on.

When the eyes fail, every measurement they made becomes suspect at once — which is this code's diagnostic gift and its trap. The gift: a burst of simultaneous, contradictory battery codes (impossible voltages, disagreeing temperatures, all at once) points here, not at forty cell groups failing together — the corpus's one-shared-thing argument, inside the pack. The trap: the same burst reads like a catastrophic battery failure to anyone who has not met the argument, and packs get quoted for sensor boards.

The module cannot run a battery it cannot see, so expect conservative behaviour up to a refusal to operate. Repair is pack-opening work by definition.

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
