P0B24: Hybrid/EV Battery A Voltage Unstable
What to do
Have the connections checked before the battery is condemned. Voltage that jumps around with load is the classic signature of a resistive joint rather than a tired battery, and joints are cheap. If the vehicle also stumbles or cuts out under heavy acceleration, mention it — that is the same fault showing itself at the moment demand is highest.
What this code means
Battery A's voltage will not sit still.
This is the most diagnostically generous code in the family, and the reason is worth learning. A battery's voltage is supposed to move — it sags under load and recovers when the load goes away, and the size of that movement is a fair measure of the battery's health. Unstable means something different: it means the voltage is moving in ways the load does not explain.
And only a short list of things does that. A resistive joint is top of it by a distance. Resistance drops voltage in proportion to current, so a corroded terminal or a bolt that was never properly torqued turns every change in demand into a visible step in the reading — which is exactly what "unstable" describes. The battery is fine; the path to it is not.
That matters because the obvious conclusion from an unstable battery voltage is that the battery is failing, and the obvious conclusion is expensive. A loose or corroded main terminal is common, cheap and produces this code faithfully, so it is the thing to eliminate first — and on a high-voltage pack, that elimination is a torque check by someone qualified rather than a spanner in a driveway.
The less cheerful readings are a cell group breaking down intermittently, or a contactor not making a solid connection each time it closes.
