P0D0F: Battery Charging System Negative Contactor A Stuck Closed

What to do

Treat the vehicle as electrically live in the charging path even when switched off, and say this code is stored when you book it in — a contactor that cannot open is exactly the fault that makes the usual assumptions unsafe. Nothing here is approachable without high-voltage training.

What this code means

The negative charging contactor has welded shut and can no longer open. The charging contactors, and how they differ from the pack's main pair, are at P0D07; why both poles are switched is at P0D0E.

Stuck closed is the serious direction. A contactor that cannot open means the charging path stays connected after charging ends — so the car cannot isolate that part of its high-voltage system, and it should be treated as live regardless of what the dashboard says. Expect the vehicle to refuse to charge again, which is correct.

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
