P0D0E: Battery Charging System Negative Contactor A Circuit
What to do
As P0D07. These are the charging contactors rather than the pack's main pair, so a car with this fault may drive perfectly and simply refuse to charge. High-voltage work throughout.
What this code means
The monitoring circuit for the negative charging contactor is faulty.
Both sides of a high-voltage battery are switched, and the reason is the single most important difference between it and a 12-volt system.
An ordinary car circuit switches the positive wire and returns current through the bodyshell. A traction battery does not: it is deliberately isolated from the chassis entirely, so that touching one pole and the car does not complete a circuit through you. That isolation is what the insulation monitoring at P0AA6 exists to police.
But isolation only works if the pack is genuinely floating, and that means both poles have to be openable. Switching only the positive would leave the negative permanently connected to the charging hardware — one fault away from a live path. So there are two contactors, they open together, and each is monitored separately.
Which gives a diagnostic gift: a fault naming only one pole is that contactor or its wiring; a fault naming both is what they share — the supply that drives their coils, or the module commanding them.
