The car may not charge. A basic code reader will probably show only this one code, which is not enough to work with — a shop with a tool that can read the charger module directly will find the real fault behind it. Ask whether a software update is available before agreeing to a new module.

What this code means

The battery charger control module is not performing as expected.

This is the P0700 pattern in an electric car, and the pattern is worth naming because it recurs across the whole corpus. A module that has detected a fault in itself, or has failed an internal check, stores a code saying so — and that code is a pointer rather than a diagnosis.

The practical consequence is the same one P0CA1 warns about: a basic code reader may show only this. The charger module keeps its detailed faults in its own memory, and reaching them needs a tool that can talk to that module specifically rather than to the powertrain module everything else answers through. So an owner reads one vague code, a shop reads six specific ones, and the difference is the tool rather than the car.

Before condemning the module, two cheaper causes deserve ruling out. Its software may be out of date or corrupted — chargers receive updates more often than most modules, because charging standards and charge-point behaviour keep moving. And a replacement module of the wrong part number will fail its own configuration check and store exactly this, which is a costly mistake to make twice.
